Go-and-teach-all-nations - John 5:16-23

John 5:16-23

The Jews rulers persecute Jesus
v16 The Jewish rulers made a lot of trouble for Jesus. They were angry because Jesus had made a man well on the Sabbath.

Jesus claims to be the Son of God
v17 Jesus spoke to them. He said, ‘My Father is still working, and so am I’.
v18 The Jews got even angrier. They wanted to kill him. He was not only working on the Sabbath. He was also calling God his Father. If Jesus was God’s son, he was making himself equal with God.

Jesus answers to the Jewish rulers “…that people will value the Son as they value the Father.”
v19 Jesus answered them, ‘I am telling you the truth. The Son can do nothing by himself. He can only do what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the son does also.
v20 For the Father shows the Son all that he does. This is because he loves him. Yes, you will be very surprised. The Father will show the Son even greater things than these.
v21 The Father raises the dead and gives them life. In the same way, the Son gives life to everyone that he chooses.
v22 More than that, the Father does not judge anyone. He has given the Son full authority to judge.
v23 This is so that people will value the Son as they value the Father. They may think that the Son has little authority. Then they will think that the Father has no power.
